I am running the math program called Math Squared Learning System in my Davis home as a supplement to elementary school math for my 2nd grade daughter. The program has been running in the Bay Area for 8 years but was unavailable in Davis. In the Bay Area, the majority of Math Squared students took placement tests and moved directly into Algebra courses upon entering 7th grade. It is also common to see Math Squared students achieving full scores in STAR testing. To make the program available for her, I went through the certification process and licensed with them.
It is a myth to believe that your children are not meant to be good in math. Seeing their children struggling with elementary math, many parents simply believe that math is probably not the strength of their kids. As a parent, I know that persistently providing math supplement to my older daughter who is now a high school junior, has made a big difference for her math.
After some search and comparison with another program in the Bay Area, I decided to go for the program designed by Math Squared Education. My 2nd grader enjoys this program a lot and it's not boring for her at all. As opposed to the repetitive daily computation drills, this program teaches children to think for themselves. It imbeds arithmetic practices in fun-to-solve problems and teaches children to observe, focus, and be patient. It encourages them to use logical thinking to come up with their own solutions. The program is designed to prepare children for smooth transition into the more advanced Algebra and Geometry (high school math) in 4-5 years. My daughter really likes it and on every Saturday morning she could not wait till the afternoon to get her hands on the workbook again.
Sincerely,
Lydia Lee

I would like to share my older daughter's experience with you. She now excels in math in the high school.
When she was in 2nd grade, her school teacher was very frustrated with her math quiz results. We were alerted about her progress in math. Since we were alerted, we started supplementing her with the only math program that was available at that time. We are grateful that her math problem was addressed early enough that the situation was totally reversed. Now as a junior in high school, she helps tutoring seniors to learn Calculus.
It was not an easy task to keep my older daughter on the traditional math program for so long. The program was boring but that was the only program that was available at that time. Yes, there were power struggles but she now thanks us for insisting on supplementing her.
For my younger daughter, we are glad that we found this motivating program. I wish I had started my search 2 years earlier and gave her a head start. The program is designed so fun that it captures a child's interest from a very young age.
